Breathless

I was walking back into my workplace on my lunch break last week, contemplating that it's been a few weeks since I've cried over my sister. A dull ache remains, but the constant worrying and heartache over her suffering has been lifted. I knew damned well that I'm not done, and thought to myself, "I wonder what it will be that will set me off." I imagine running into someone that does not yet know, coming across something she gave me, or being unable to talk to her about Mom. It will be something, I know.

1o minutes or so left on my break, I decided to sit down and see what my friend Becky had been up to, via her blog.

Becky and I became fierce friends when we worked together years ago. God, how she makes me laugh. It's been 10 years (or so) since she up and moved back to Tucson, but time and the distance hasn't changed the friendship one iota. I love her, I love her husband, her son, her parents, her sister and her sister's family. I love her aunt and her Grandma (Hi, Goldie!). Anytime we connect, it's real. If months or years go by, its as if it was yesterday that we last spoke.

You know the friend. That friend. Becky is that friend.

Ok, so you're all caught up, right? I'm thinking "what will undo me next?" followed by "I think I'll check Becky's blog." Last I checked in, she was planning on cutting all of this glorious hair off. Maybe I'd see a new do! Whoo hoo!

It was then that I discovered what would next undo me.

THIS IS WHAT WAS ON BECKY'S BLOG.

...

It's been a week, and I still cannot catch my breath when I look at this.

Tsk.

Becky.

  4. I've been a reader for a few months, but first-time commenter. What a wonderful thing your friend did! And it's inspired me to do the same! I donated my hair to locks of love when I was in college, and they've got a minimum donation length of 10 inches. Pantene's requirement is only 8 inches, which is about where I'm at right now! I had been growing my hair out for my wedding that took place in August, and I'm ready to get rid of it and give it to a good cause!

  5. For other selfish reasons, when I quit working, I decided I would grow the ponytail I always wanted, but corporate America frowned on. One year later, it's getting about right! Four months ago, my oldest friend discovered he had cancer(again), and has done chemo, and is doing radiation as we speak.. I am ready to donate my hair, if he loses his- no problem..

  6. Incredible. I hope I don't make you cry again when I say that it was Teri who was nudging you to look at Becky's blog. What a sweet, wonderful thing to do and a fine tribute to Teri.

I am always surprised what sets me off since dad passed away (a month yesterday). Like you said, the daily tears have stopped and we can discuss things that would logically send us weeping.

The thing that most recently set me off was glancing inside my dad's truck, which mom plans to sell. Bam. That was "the thing."

My heart feels warm...and cheeks are too..with tears.

Such a beautiful way to carry on the memory.

Just remembered another friend who got her thick wavy long hair cut to ear length in memory of a lost one..donated to a needy.

    God bless their souls
