Diggin "Goog 411"

I know there are all kinds of internet and phone services out there, set up to make your life easier. I generally experiment with them, and find them to be more cumbersome than they're worth, or at least, unmemorable: I forget to use them.

I have, however, fallen in love with Goog 411, or 800-466-4411.

It seems like you'd all know about this, but I haven't met anyone yet that has heard of the service, when I speak of it.

This number will look up and connect you to any business number for free. FREE!

Say I'm racing around the grocery store, and I just remember that I forgot to make an appointment to have Mom's dog groomed. (Say it, because it really happened.)

I've keyed Goog-411 into my speed dial. I dial #13, and tell the electronic voice that answers that I need Bob's Pet Grooming, in Champaign Illinois. The next thing I know, I am speaking to the party to whom I am speaking (Bob), and I have an appointment for next Thursday.

No more phone books in the car! No more calling home to have someone look up a number! No more useless trips to God knows where, to see if God knows what is in stock!

Yes! I can call KFC any minute of the day, to see if they have chicken legs!! I can call Old Orchard Bowling Alley, to see if they have 10-pound balls! And I never have to look up a number!

Bwah-ha-haaaaaaaa, I love Goog 411!

Check it out your own self!

Ok, so how long have you been using this? Are you sure you won't be recieving an extra payment on your next phone bill? It sounds way to good to be true. Kelly

  3. Been using it for months, no extra charges. None of that that "we'll connect you for seventy-five cents" crap.

We don't pay for our google mail, we don't pay for our google 411. Yay, google!

  5. It's not too good to be true. I use it occasionally too. I noticed a small announcement about it on Google when it was first launched, but they certainly don't make a big to do about the service and I haven't encountered anyone else that uses it... until now. Google is so awesome. It's my boyfriend.

  6. I don't get it. What does Google have to do with telephones? Why would they want to give people phone numbers? Why would the highly regulated phone companies allow Google to do this? Oh, wait, I know why. Google is slowly taking over the world, one service at a time. :-)
    Damn, I love Google.

  9. Me, too!!! When we bought new phones for the house a while back, they had a Goog 411 button built in. I started experimenting, and now I'm hooked. For those of us who remember the days when you could dial 411 at any time and get telephone directory info, this is like clicking your heels and going home! Even if you're not talking to a real person.
