A Gift

I was asked, yesterday, to send some photos of myself and my mother to NBC. Since camera crews were unavailable, they were considering just showing some still shots during our segment. Sitting at my desk at work, my options were limited, and I e-mailed Sally Ryan, the photographer that the New York Times sent to the house a few weeks ago.

I asked her if she had any photos that she was willing to share. She very kindly emailed back a few of them this morning, shots that I had never seen.

I fell in love with this one, immediately:

This photo captures perfectly what any day with my mother is like. I have always laughed with her, and even through some frustrating times now, and some occasional tears, we still laugh, like this, almost every single day.

I am most grateful to Sally Ryan for sending me these photos. This one, I will cherish forever, I am sure.

(Sally's website is under construction; I will most certainly link up to it when it is up & running.)

My mother died when I was in my early 20's. I was never given one single photograph of her. I am now almost 60, and I still don't have a photograph of her. I would treasure a picture of my Mom.

  3. AZ: Breaks my heart. Is there anyone anywhere that could have a copy made for you?!! I suppose you've tried that. I hope one comes to you someday. Soon.

Nancy: I know, right?!! Sounded like Ms. Ryan had a busy (fascinating), with little time to go through the thousands of photos she takes for her jobs. It's a gem.

Oh, so nice! Lovely pic that one.

Makes me say 'God bless and keep you both like that forever' :)

Out of all the pictures of my parents ( most when attempting a photographic smile ), the one I love and treasure is a simple low quality pic I captured on the webcamera while on a video chat.

There was a hearty laugh where they look and feel so happy together.
